Theater By The Sea plans upgrades Providence Business News
3/15/2010 SOUTH KINGSTOWN – Theatre By The Sea plans to start work Monday on a new brick walkway and improvements to its grounds, the theater said. Ocean State Theatre Company, which produces shows at the historic site, said it has hired East Providence-based landscape architecture firm Gates, Leighton & Associates Inc. to redesign the gazebo walkway area and Charlestown-based Rare Earth Landscaping Inc. to do the work. Supports can purchase engraved bricks as part of a fundraising effort by the theater. “The redesign of the theater’s entrance walk through the Gazebo Garden is a project that I would put in the ‘fun category,’” said Donald Leighton, Gates, Leighton & Associates’ principal in charge of the project. “All those involved from the theater have brought a creative spirit to the design process and collectively we have crafted a walkway plan that ensures the proper fit with the surrounding landscape.” Plans call for the first phase of the project to fix the tripping hazard caused by the current edging material and the settling of the bricks surrounding the gazebo structure. The second phase of the project, which will improve the handicap accessibility between the parking lot, theater and handicap restroom, is scheduled to be addressed simultaneously with the safety issues. Both phases are scheduled for completion prior to the 2010 summer season. To view the plan: CLICK HERE All News Reports >>
