EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (October 12, 2007): Arthur J. Eddy, vice president of administration and a landscape architect with the East Providence-based firm of Gates, Leighton & Associates (GLA), has been certified by the U.S. Green Building Council as a LEED® Accredited Professional.

The U.S. Green Building Council is the national governing body of the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program. “The Council’s mission with the LEED program is to transform the way buildings and communities are designed, built and operated, enabling an environmentally and socially responsible, healthy and prosperous environment that improves the quality of life. It’s all about sustainability,” states Donald Leighton, president of Gates, Leighton & Associates. “By earning the accreditation credential, Arthur demonstrates a thorough understanding of green building practices and familiarity with LEED requirements, resources and processes. He is now recognized as a LEED expert within the building industry nationwide.”

Mr. Eddy joined GLA in 2005 as a landscape designer. He is responsible for design development for the firm’s commercial and residential clients throughout New England and Egypt, directing GLA’s operations, and supervising the firm’s main office in East Providence, RI and satellite office in Boothbay, Maine.

“The green revolution helps put landscape architects on the front lines of the fight to conserve our precious supply of natural resources,” states Mr. Eddy. “The aim of sustainable design is to create spaces that reduce use of non-renewable resources and minimize environmental impact. From my experience, both costs and negative impacts can be avoided if a site’s environmental conditions are considered from the start. LEED helps to set the standard for achieving certain levels of sustainability and, through smart design, help people better relate to the natural environment.”

Mr. Eddy is a 2003 graduate of the University of Rhode Island (Kingstown, RI) and currently resides in Coventry, R.I.
