The City of Providence has been actively promoting mixed-use development for the City's industrial waterfront. Working shipyards and energy companies will be contiguous with hotels, condominiums, and all of their support needs. The Providence Piers will be a landmark redevelopment of historical buildings and new construction. The complex will provide hotel space, condominium homes, restaurants, and retail spaces. Reuse of the long piers for water taxis and regional ferries will make this an intermodal transportation center as well.
